2025 Edition

28, 29 & 30 august

Iznajazz is conceived as a amazing party with the best live musicthat takes place in the most interesting and emblematic spaces in the wonderful town of Iznájar.

In this, its 5th edition, Friday night will bring us emotional and frenetic Balkan music.

Earlier, we'll have the chance to immerse ourselves in the universe created around traditional Brazilian music by Miguel Ángel Corral and his band, and even participate in a singing workshop with Alex Oliveira and join their performance. And as every year, we'll dance in the street with Xaranga del Xubec or in the square with Elsa Bhor.

And maybe some more surprises...

Iznájar

More than a Stage

Iznájar

More than a Stage

All Iznajazz performances take place on the streets, in the most emblematic places of the old town: The Castle and old Alcazaba, Calle Real and Plaza Nueva.
Iznájar is not just the place where it happens, it is one of the protagonists of the festival. The beauty and singularity of its spaces, as well as the interaction of the performances with them, make this festival unique. Aspects such as shade or the proximity of catering services have been taken into consideration, to allow attendees the ability to enjoy each space at the ideal time and conditions.

Performances

Corralito Quartet

The overseas musical traditions, jazz, Cuban son, and Brazilian rhythms, their colors and structures, and Iberian music—more specifically flamenco—converge in an original proposal. In this project, besides original compositions, there is a tribute to classics of popular music such as Chiquinha Gonzaga, Dizzy Gillespie, Baden Powell, and Félix Santos.

In an essentially acoustic format where the sounds of the piano, three Cuban "tres", bass, and percussion intertwine with the Spanish guitar, the quartet creates an elegant and sophisticated musical texture that is also warm and captivating, leaving ample space for improvisation while respecting the roots of the music.

Alex Oliveira Cuarteto

Alex Sancher Oliveria will present a personal selection of masterpieces of Brazilian music, from Jobim to Djavan, we could say.

Throughout half a century immersed in music, he has participated in multiple projects both in Brazil and Spain with musicians such as Gibran Helayel, Rubem Dantas, and Diego Guerrero. In the field of choral music, he directed the Intercultural Choir of Cruz Roja Granada and worked on the Solidarity Communities project and the Cultural Days of the Spanish Embassy as a guest teacher at the Orquestra Sinfónica de Kaposoka school in Luanda (Angola).

Bratia

The musical richness of the Balkans and the energy and elegance of gypsy jazz, united by the nomadism of the very art, create a unique proposal—a sound world, a brotherhood. As the Slavic origin of the name indicates... BRATIA."

Four musicians from the iconic band Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra, driven by the need to explore an uncharted musical world, join forces with an artist seasoned in the legacy of Django Reinhardt to capture the exhilarating union between the infinite sound universe of the Balkan countries and the energy, sobriety, and precision of gypsy jazz.

During their 15 years of existence, Xaranga del Xubec has participated in countless jazz festivals, carnivals, parties, streets, squares, beaches, boats... and even in the filming and soundtrack of Fernando Colomo's movie 'La isla Bonita.'

On Saturday, we will see the Xaranga del Xubec again, but this time in their natural habitat: the street. And with their eclectic repertoire: from New Orleans jazz (with lots of swing), Balkan music, Mediterranean sounds, klezmer, and even music that transports you under a circus tent.

They keep the audience immersed in the magic of music at all times, always with joy, lots of humor, good music, and above all, improvisation: 'We never give two shows the same.'

Group Singing Workshop

With Alex Sancher Oliveira

In this small didactic workshop, we will approach singing in a different way and observe the origins of the habanera as a rhythm, as well as its importance as a shared identity marker among Europeans and Afro-descendants. Through Spain, it contributed decisively to the long development of a rhythmic cell that spread within Afro-descendant communities throughout America and remains relevant to this day.
The workshop is divided into two parts: a theoretical part and a practical part, intertwined. Despite its brevity, the theoretical section aims to explore how the student feels and thinks about singing. Meanwhile, we will proceed with vocal warm-ups and group recognition, opening the possibility to address, more than singing technique itself, a small reflection on its ultimate essence in a playful and practical way. We will discuss the phenomenon of singing and, through phonemes, begin to search for notes to start building melodies that will form the basis of our future repertoire.

Parallel activities

Exhibition: "Click & Swing" by Edith López

Opening exhibition on Thursday, August 28th at 9:00 PM.

Edith's passion for music and photography has led her to combine both disciplines in a project that excites her like no other: capturing the essence of concerts and festivals from within, always seeking the genuine emotions and the unique atmosphere experienced at each live show.

Her photos are not just simple reports; they convey energy, rhythm, and truth because a good photograph is not only about technique but also about passion and commitment to what happens on both sides of the lens.

Album covers exhibition: 'Jazz en portadas'

Inauguration: Tuesday, August 26th at 8:00 PM.

Exhibition of iconic records from the history of international jazz, from Louis Armstrong or Nina Simone to John Coltrane or Tete Montoliú.

The records in the exhibition come from the personal collection of Andrés Garrido Sánchez, a great enthusiast of music in general, jazz in particular, and vinyl records. He hosted a jazz program for years on Radio Rute (among others), which was selected and broadcast for several seasons on the Network of Local Radio Stations of Andalusia.

Presentation and Listening Session of the Publishing and Record Label 'La Casa Rosa'

During the event, there will be a discussion about the publishing and record label 'La Casa Rosa,' and a showcase of the first two physical vinyl records from their 'Beyond Jazz Series.' Additionally, information about these albums and their musicians will be provided. Afterwards, 'La Casa Rosa' will offer attendees a vinyl listening session.
